With midterms over, there’s not much else to do but keep up with my reading. Of course, with reading come more procrastination, and that is what I have been doing as of late. Really, anything and everything is a good source of distraction while pretending to do some work for school. Television, novels, cooking, social outings, walks through the parks, exercising, whatever you can name.

Registering for a summer term, it did not occur to me that I wouldn’t have TV to distract me. Okay, that’s partially untrue. I had May Sweeps to carry me through the month of May (dur), but after that, nothing. Nothing but reality show garbage. Except, my beloved So You Think You Can Dance. SYTYCD is, I believe, the one reality show that showcases real talent while others pale in comparison. I used to watch American Idol but then I stopped because I lost interest. After three seasons of SYTYCD, and now a fourth, I’m still watching.

Favourite partners: Twitch & Kherington, and Mark & Chelsie, and Katee & Joshua.

Other than SYTYCD, I haven’t been watching anything else. Which is blasphemy in my eyes, as I’m always at the television or on my computer watching missed episodes. I could be outside and enjoying the sun, but since the weather has been a horrible mess of rain and thunderstorms, I don’t see that happening until there are nice days (like yesterday, Happy Canada Day!).

Okay, to be honest, midterms have been over for more than a few weeks now, and I’m just able to write. Hmm. Living in a dump will do that to you.

With a self-diagnosed addiction to my laptop, I don’t know how I lasted a whole month without the use of the tool of my entire existence. What happened to it? Long story short: keyboard unresponsive, it kept restarting before fully loading up the OS, sent it into the Apple Store, they tried repairing things, then eventually just replaced the whole laptop. That’s right. I got an upgrade from a first-generation 15” MacBook Pro to the latest model at zero dollars. Not a dime spent during the whole process.

Things I did while laptop-less:

read books

did school work

cleaned my room (finally)

read more books

stole the roommate’s laptop

watched tv

watched movies

read more books

did more school work

Now that I have a laptop again, I can do more of everything, as well as mindlessly surf the internet. Oh, laptop … how I have miss you.

Having been back at the parentals’ respective homes for a week has been eventful, and quite taxing. Remind me to never go back to the nest again for more than two days without my laptop (which has been at The Apple Store for most of the week), and to never promise to spring clean by myself. All that jazz is just unwarranted stress upon all individuals in this lovely nuclear family.

I finished the first season of Life of Ryan. What is it with MTV shows and their ability to suck you right in? Ryan claimed to have “so much drama” in his life, and I assure you that I have more drama in my two hours of conversing with The Mother than he had in all eight episodes. Kid can skate, though. And buy his own house. I should be a pro skater.

I actually finished my last exam of the Winter 2008 term on Saturday, but it has been a whirlwind of celebration since then. Now that I am finished with exams and school (for the term), I have nothing to do but clean my room. Oh, and find a way back to the parents’ for a few days before the Spring term starts again.

Yeah, I’m crazy. I’ll be back in school for the summer for a full-time studies. That’s fine by me. I get to take some courses that I need to get out of the way, and have a fabulous summer with most of my friends.

Summer? Bring it on.

One of the best ways to get distracted from studying for your exams is to get into an already-established television show. Why an already-established one? Well, you can’t be an effective procrastinator if you’re waiting for the next episode to air next week. So, what you do is go and purchase (or borrow from a friend who’s been touting this show to you for ages) the show’s DVDs and watch the whole season. In one sitting. Then, get the next season and watch that season. In one sitting. Wash, rinse, and repeat until you’ve been caught up to the latest episode.

Some awesome shows to watch:

How I Met Your Mother

The Office

Veronica Mars (yes, it’s over. Sadness.)

Heroes

LOST

the list goes on and on

Yesterday, I spilled water three times. Once all over the desk, thankfully everything was saved. The second time was smaller, and everything was saved once again. The final time I spilled was on my laptop. Not a lot, but enough to make it go kaput and destroy the keyboard. Nothing is typing now, and I think I’m going to cry because of the high levels of stress that I am under at the moment.

I’m at the library, getting ready to study for exam number two which is in five hours.

I’m probably jinxing myself, but I think I’m coming down with a cold. I love my body’s impeccable timing. It knows exactly when I need to be at my healthiest, then decides to rebel against me right before exam period begins.

Monday is my last test in Developmental Psychology, and I have to kick its ass in order to bring up my horrid mark. I came to the library to study, and what happens? My head nags me the whole time with a throbbing bellow of “You’re sick! You’re sick!” while my throat cackles evilly every time I swallow with piercing cries of “You’re sick! You’re sick!” My hands are cold, and that’s a sure sign that my body hates me as it sends all the warmth to the core; my extremities are usually warm but not when I’m sick.

Oh, and I have two final exams on Saturday. I haven’t started studying for those. Body, heal thyself!

I’ve been here for a solid four hours, and was planning on staying until dinnertime, but I think I need to listen to my body’s cries and go home. Some Magic Tylenol, and my warm, napping-welcome bed awaits me.

I gave up on cleaning.

My desk is in tip-top condition, the floors are 90% cleared of garbage, and the “bookshelf” is organized. The only things remaining are: the top of my dresser where everything, including dust, has accumulated; the closet - it is full of laundry that needs being done; the remaining 10% of my floor right by my bed - all the things I have yet to put away because I don’t have any shelf space for them. Note to self: gather more milk crates to complete shelf unit.

People don’t seem to understand that I am perfectly fine with living in a messy room. As long as my desk and bed have space for me and my computer, I am content. It is an ordered chaos of sorts. Even when I only have a single path from my door to my bed, I know where everything is. I may have to dig through some things, but I know where things are. That is why my mom or grandmother never cleaned my room; if they did, I would not know where a single thing was. I get slightly anal about knowing where things are.

Funny story; my computer’s hard drive is very organized.

Dary.

This weather is ridonkulous. End of story.

No, not the end.

My friend Tiffany pointed out that I love orzo. Yes, I love orzo. I was telling her how much I couldn’t wait to get home and make some for dinner tonight. Well, guess what? I made it as soon as I got home and had it for an early dinner. That’s right. Thank you to Katie’s momma for the fantabulous recipe. I used the rest of the parmesan cheese, sadly. I should just stop having orzo with parmesan cheese because I am (partially) lactose-intolerant. I like torturing myself, though, so I continue to enjoy dairy products as much as I can. Orzo is awesome. Period.

Also, today is Monday. Do you know what that means? Yes, it is How I Met Your Mother Day! Last week, Britney Spears showed her paparazzi-attacked face on the show, and did a pretty good job playing Sweet Abby. Sarah Chalke (of Scrubs fame), however, stole the show - yes, she had a bigger role, but seriously? She was awesome. The laugh? Awesome. Also, the slight possibility that she is the Mother? Amazing. Apparently, tonight, we see more of Barney. I’ve missed Swarley. Last week’s episode was definitely missing the group as a whole, so I’m hoping tonight with be full of awesomeness.

Oh. Not finished cleaning room. I started yesterday, and paused to play games. I’m nearly done. Honest.

I don’t know. There’s something about cleaning my room that makes things feel better. Maybe it’s the fact that I live in a sty for months at a time, then when exams start to roll around, I need to study in a ordered atmosphere. Ha. It’s more like me looking for more reasons to procrastinate. Which is exactly the case today. I have one full week of school left this term, and I’m already behind in Calculus II, and Genetics so I should be studying and completing outstanding assignments. Instead, I’m cleaning my mess of a room and watching seasons of How I Met Your Mother.

I believe that when exams roll around, it is essential to find as many ways to distract yourself from studying. Studying causes stress, and a stressful exam period is not helpful to the process of passing. Of course, passing your finals is what the goal is so studying a few days before the final is what I do every term.

I realize that I make no sense, and it’s probably because I am coming down with a cold and my throat is shot. Swarley says that finals will be legen … wait for it …

I have come to the conclusion that I need exactly eight hours of sleep, or else I am full of fail. I have also come to the conclusion that starting your paper four and a half hours before it is due is an indication of epic failure, but that may or may not be another story. Anyway, I got five hours of sleep last night. Unlike some crazy folks, I can’t function properly without the full eight hours - if I get less or more, it will definitely be a fail day. I should have realized this when I finally got up after hitting the snooze button eleven times, and found that my body felt as if it were beat … by something hard (yeah, you would think I would come up with something witty to use as an analogy but I just fooled you there).

The whole day was full of me complaining about how full of fail my life was. Sorry to my lovely friends in the office. Honestly, and truly. It was a combination of being stressed over writing a reflective paper in less than four hours, and feeling like I was crammed into a tiny, claustrophobia-inducing box for an extended period of time. I guess that’s what I get for putting off a paper that was given to me a month prior, and for going to a dance on a Monday night, and staying until 1:30 in the morning. To be fair, though, I helped to run the dance, so I had to stay to clean up. Oh, waking up feeling hungover even though I didn’t have any alcohol to drink was another indication of fail (clearly I was dehydrated from too much fun).

The weather gets an A+ for fail. It snowed today.

I did some extremely difficult calculations, and came up with this equation:

Eunice + Life = Fail

Then, I found out that my Developmental Psychology test marks were out. Did some equation rewriting:

Eunice + Life = Not So Fail

I still need sleep, though.

As a poor university student, it’s hard to eat right on a budget. It’s possible, but everyone knows that it’s so much easier to go to the plaza (or cafeteria) for a quick (most likely unhealthy) bite to eat than go home and make yourself some delicious food. If you’re like me, your fridge and cupboard is stocked with random items from the grocery store that don’t really work together to make something appetizing. You’ve probably already eaten all the KD Mac and Cheese, and frozen dinners, and the microwavable Pad Thai, or finished that carton of juice in one sitting. Yeah, that’s right. One sitting. I still have a variety of pastas, one jar of pasta sauce, a jar of pickles that have yet to be opened, half a bag of cookies, a few cans of soup that I’ll probably never eat, and vegetables.

Whatever. I’m pretty handy in the kitchen. I can think on my feet. I’m a smart, creative student too lazy to go back out to the grocery store to grab more food - after all, I’m poor and have less than $10 left in my bank account.

So, what do I do in the middle of the night when I can’t order in pizza from that pizza place that’s open until 5 a.m.? Throw together some leftovers, of course.

Made from:

The last two slices of French crusty bread from the bakery section of the grocery store. I was actually saving them in the freezer for a delicious grilled cheese sandwich at lunchtime another day, but hey, the stomach spoke.

The last bit of salsa that was on the border of being too old. Or well, “too old” in that I am not a fan of the excessive alcohol-y (yeah, I know, right?) taste from too much fermentation.

The last of my pasta sauce (well, the opened one).

Homemade, pre-cooked hamburgers. My grandmother made a tonne of patties for me and my brother, and these had been sitting in the freezer for a few days already.

Chipotle BBQ Sauce. Oh god, Chelsea’s friend bought this when they made ribs the weekend before, and seriously? Heavenly sauce. So good. I crumbled the burgers, and poured the BBQ sauce on them while heating them in the frying pan.

A single slice of real cheddar cheese.

Made from:

Butterfly cut chicken breast, seasoned with grilling salt

Chipotle BBQ Sauce

Crushed Special K because I wanted some crunchiness, but failed with timing because well, I should have baked it if I wanted crunchiness. It was still delicious.

Orzo cooked in chicken broth (taken from Campbell’s Chicken Noodle Soup since I had no actual broth leftover), parmesan cheese, and basil - recipe care of roommate’s mother.

You would think that I would get delicious food whenever I come home - considering the fact that my mother is a caterer (yes, for funeral receptions, so she really only does sandwiches and fruit platters, etc., but she is a pretty awesome cook/chef/food person). Well, you’re wrong. In the past three and a half days, I have had ramen thrice, microwavable personal pizzas thrice, I made dinner once, and well, I made lunch twice. Seriously. I eat better back when I’m at school than when I’m back at my parents’ even though they nag me every time I’m on the phone with them about eating healthily.

I’ve started this entry just shy a million times now, and still cannot help but let my fail shine through. You might remember me from previous blogging attempts that have resulted in utter failure - here’s hoping this doesn’t become another casualty of “Eunice being a procrastinator of epic proportions” and go down the internet drain of sewage. Most of the failure is attributed to me not being able to be satisfied with the content I wrote about. Now, I have no expectations going in, and will not have to deal with being scared of failure. Also, knowing that the sole person reading this is actually reading this is worth it - it being whatever I can think of at a later time.

If you didn’t come here via me messaging you with my latest attempt at blogging (as doubtful as it may be) you have no idea who I am. I’m perfectly fine with that, but common courtesy dictates that I let you know something about me.

Hi, I’m Eunice.

There.

Fine.

I’m a sophomore in college, going for a B.Sc. in Psychology because I want to help change the world. Really. Believe it. I’m Canadian (me saying “college” earlier was not entirely correct - up here, we say “university”) so I will definitely spell words like “colour”, “honour”, “neighbour”, et al. correctly. Other words will probably be misspelled because I have a nasty habit of letting my fingers fing before I can tell them to fing. I live in a university town, not too far from a big city. It’s fun times living in my very own bubble. I have no idea what I want to do with my life (that’s not what I tell my parents who still believe that I will get into medical school and become a psychiatrist) and am constantly trying to convince myself that I will know what I want to be doing with my life eventually.

To summarize: I am a Big Ball O’ Fail.
